    Gear selection problem

    My son owns a 1998 Micra 1 litre K11. Today after a 20 mile drive he went to select 1st gear and the actual gear stick came loose and then dropped back to a possition as if in 2nd gear. The car itself is now stuck in 1st gear and we cannot move the gear stick. Is this a selector problem?, if so does this mean replacing the selectors , if so is it much of a job and what sort of price are slectors. thanks
