2nd hand head unit replacement

The infotainment system in my x trail (17 plate) needed replacing. After being quoted £4000 by Nisssn dealer I decided to buy a 2nd hand one off eBay. Fitted fine but says system locked red contact dealer. I know this may need linking up to a computer to pair with the car but can only dealers do this? Any help gratefully received.

It would be the case unless the unit was previously unlocked to fit any vehicle.
It stops any stolen stereos being used in another car so the dealer would need to programme it to your car, shouldn't take too long and little costs really
