Faulty clock spring. Am I being fleeced?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm not sure I'm posting in the right place but I recently bought an older Qashqai while my main car gets repaired and I've had nothing but issues. It's a 2009 so not unexpected but now the airbag light is flashing along with the horn and some steering wheel buttons not working. No biggie according to good old google. It's just the clock spring. Took it to the only available garage and apparently a broken clock spring means a whole new steering wheel, airbag, the works, with a hefty price tag to match all delivered by the garage bloke with a head shake and a sucking of air between the teeth. I'm not physically able to do it myself but from everything I've seen, it needs nowhere near that much of a job. Anyone able to advise?  Would it need that or is he pulling a fast one?

I would check with the Nissan parts department and they should be able to advise if it is seperate item

Always has been many years ago on most cars but you never know whether it is a sales pitch to clear old stock

You could try eBay for a secondhand one
