  1. Hi - Sorry for the delay in update but problem now cured. Took a while but finally back on the road. Had to take it to a main Nissan dealer 20 miles away in the end so as to connect it to their diagnostics system due to other garages near me not having older diagnostic computer kits compatible with my car. Not cheap. £120 later and they said that the Mass Airlow Unit and Knock sensor needed replacing. Their quote was £1671. Staggering. Said parts were the costly items. They said Airflow Unit was £565 plus VAT. No way! Anyway spoke to Paul at local garage and he said that in all his working life (over 20 years) he had only ever replaced one knock sensor in all that time so should ignore that. A search on ebay resulted in me purchasing Airflow Unit for just under £36. Yes only £36. Could have had it shipped from Australia for around £75 all in. Anyway booked car in with Paul who fitted it along with a couple of rubber gaitors for the steering rack. Total cost for his work was £60. Result - success. Car now runs just as it did before problem occurred so very 'happy bunny'.
  2. Hi Hoping someone can help with problem I am having with my QX. Car starts but tickover not smooth. As soon as you touch accelerator pedal it dies. Eventually after numerous attempts it will rev up but will not rev past 2000rpm. just pops and bangs which obviously is not good. If you engage drive (4 speed auto with overdrive) it stalls. Need to hold revs at around 1300 -1400rpm to get it to pullaway but of course it does so with a jerk. Once on the go gearbox changes are often hesitent along with its reluctance to rev. Have serviced the car along with new plugs. Even changed transmission oil. No Engine management warning lights on dash. No warning lights of any kind. Car has covered just under 130,000 miles and never had any problems like this before. Has always started 1st time and run smooth as clockwork. Any ideas/suggestions as to cause and cure would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks Mike
  3. Thinking of selling my 1996 Nissan QX 3ltr SEL. Any idea as to what price I should ask? Thanks Mike
  4. Thanks Trevor. Will have a look but not sure about my soldering skills now due arthritis in fingers etc. Still if it turns out to be the problem sure I can find electrical repair shop to solder it.
  5. Hi all Merry Xmas to all. Hope you are all having a great time despite Covid. My remote has just packed up. Put new battery in so know that it's the remote control. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement as well as someone who can program it. the car is a 1996 QX 3.0ltr SEL. Hopefully one of you can help out. Many thanks Mike
  6. Thanks for that Trevor. Didn't realise you were an administrator. And sorry for not acknowledging your action sooner but have only just logged on to the forum. Busy busy the last couple of days. Can post more pics if you like. Whilst on do you know if there will be any shows on this year with regard to our cars? Most classic car shows I have attended, apart from the annual NEC, have hardly any Japanese vehicles on show. Regards and stay safe. Mike
  7. Hi Trevor Not sure why but can only a attach a file no larger than 47.89kB. Had no problem posting the other ones. This is very restrictive as a 640 x 480 pic which are totally acceptable when attached to an email is 73kB. Have attached one of the front interior of the car which I have greatly reduced. Perhaps an administrator can explain the restriction. Mike
  8. Hi Trevor Can confirm condition is excellent so wouldn't be able to get another one to match it. As to selling it wife is telling (nagging) me not to do so as i will only regret it. Really love this high speed cruiser so hopefully won't have to. Won't let me add any more pics to this post due to limit on kB so will do a separate post. Mike
  9. Hi, May have to sell my QX in the near future. Only produced for 2 years before a styling revamp this early top of the range 1996 3.0ltr SEL are quite rare to find in this country especially in this condition. Mileage is just over 126000. Trying to get an idea of its value in case I have to. Any ideas.
  10. Hi All Just to let you all know car now back on the road. It may have taken some time but we got there in the end. When I last posted the position was Paul was contacting a couple of suppliers suggested by followers of my post. Unfortunately ion the end both were unable to help. However Paul never gave up trying to resolve the matter. Despite continuously receiving the wrong parts he finally was supplied a hub assembly with the correct size bearing. However it turned out that he couldn't use the hub because it was fitted with the wrong ABS sensor rotor. This one had less teeth on it. Fitting this would have resulted in a mismatch on the ABS system which would have flagged up a warning on the ABS system due to the different size of rotors fitted to the front and back of the car which if done would mean an MOT failure at the next test. Following a lot of further discussion about what to do next a solution was finally found which in the end proved quite easy to resolve the matter. The hub supplier agreed to supply two wheel hub bearing without the sensor rotor. Didn't make sense to do just one side. If one side was failing how long before the other played up. The a friend of Paul's who runs a small engineering company manufactured a a couple of custom size shims to fit on the hubs so as to allow the original ABS rotors to be re-used. Result was that ABS functions as it should. No warning lights and more importantly no droning from the rear. Many thanks to all for the advice and comments which although they didn't offer an immediate solution was much appreciated. Mike
  11. Hi Trevor I have passed this info to Paul and he will give them a ring so between the two companies hopefully one will come up trumps. Many thanks Mike
  12. Hi Trevor Will pass this info on to Paul. In the meantime an update on where we are at present. Paul contacted a company in Southampton called Govindas Auto who had been suggested as a possible source for the bearings. According to their website they carry a stock of parts for older Datsun & Nissan vehicles yesterday morning. They got back to him later that day to say that he couldn't get any. Paul also finally got a response from the major Nissan dealer in the area who, after checking, said that that particular size of bearing and the relevant hub was now obsolete and unobtainable anywhere. Even Japan did not have any. They said Nissan had only used it in production for 2 years before changing to the smaller size that it seems everyone now supplies. When Paul asked for any suggestions to resolve the matter their response was "TOUGH!!!" and offered no help at all which from my dealings with Nissan dealers over the years is consistent with their approach to customer service. Totally useless. Paul is currently talking to a bearing company in Alfreton. They said that if he takes the hub assembly to them they will see if they can provide a solution so fingers crossed. Not sure what to do if they or Ashley Bearings can't supply. Will keep you updated. Regards Mike Read more: http://datsunclubuk.proboards.com/thread/4323/1996-nissan-rear-wheel-bearings#ixzz5YIEUXHiH
  13. Hi I own a 1996 Nissan QX 3ltr SEL. I am currently having trouble sourcing rear wheel bearings for it. My friend who runs a garage says that the bearings I need have an internal diameter of 30mm whilst the external is 72mm. He has tried several companies whose adverts say they will fit my car but when they arrive they are too small - around 26mm internal and 50mm external. The bearing is too small to fit into the hub and of course it won’t fit on the shaft. He has even tried buying the complete hub and bearing together as a kit but they still supply the wrong ones. Would appreciate it if someone has had this problem in the past and can let me know where I can purchase the correct parts. Many thanks Mike
