Engine warning light keeps coming on. Car bought new in 2017. Garage can't work out what the problem is and saying 4.5k to fix but probably not worth it and basically saying buy a new car.

 

Already paid 370 last week for what they thought might be wrong.

Does the engine performance suffer when the light comes on?

I would definitely take the car to another garage to have it checked as it should be a straightforward diagnosis and repair and definitely not a serious issue that would cost £4.5k to resolve
