teapottony Posted December 18, 2016 Share Posted December 18, 2016 need some advice for my 2005 xtrail 2.5 petrol sport please, the last couple of times towing i have had a real strong bad egg smell coming from under the bonnet at first i thought it may be the clutch as the smell only occurs when reversing but not in forward motion, does not happen when not towing, have been told its the clutch, the cat converter and also fuel problem but would have thought it would do it at all times not just towing in reverse, any informed info to save me replacing the wrong parts and wasting money thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Trevor Posted December 20, 2016 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Welcome to the Forum It sounds like a Catalytic Converter emitting the smell of sulphur but why only in reverse? Unless you are covering ground where the smell is being emitted (e.g. from the exhaust which you wouldn't smell if you are travelling forwards) ?
